Dead end filtration:In the dead-end filtration, the solvent and solute particles smaller than the membrane pores in the pressure push through the membrane, larger than the membrane pores of the solute particles are retained, usually accumulated on the membrane surface. With the increase of time, more and more particles accumulated on the membrane surface, the permeability of the membrane will decline, then must stop to clean the membrane surface or replace the membrane.
Cross flow filtration: The filtration liquid in which the flow direction of the liquid is parallel to the membrane surface under pressure drive called cross flow filtration. The liquid flows along the membrane surface, producing shear force on the membrane surface retained material, making it partially return to the main stream, thus reducing the membrane contamination. The membrane permeation rate can also be maintained at a high level for a relatively long period of time.
